Moving JIRA from Linux to Windows while upgrading from 6.3 to 7.1

TomB September 26, 2016

So, my team is taking ownership of the JIRA implementation at my company. Currently our v6.3.7 JIRA installation sits on Linux boxes. My team wants to accomplish two things:

A) Migrate JIRA to a new database, and install onto Windows app servers.

B) Upgrade JIRA from v6.3.7 to v7.1.10

Are there any known pitfalls with moving a JIRA installation from Linux hosting to Windows?

Thanks!

One bit of advice,  make sure you have a local user setup if your using Crowd to authenticate.   I've ben struggling with the same situation as well as the same migration path and have come up with being locked out of the db.

A) No issue to move OS and database by xml migration be sure to stay in the supported platforms.

B) You can try to do the jump from 6.3 to 7, if it dose not work, try to migrate to 6.4 then jump to JIRA 7.1 or latest.

(Make sure all addons are installed and compatible with the new version)
