Hi,

Is it possible to log all changes in a JIRA project in a separat log file on the JIRA server, instead of searching a huge catalina.out ?

No. But you can have the system administrator set up log rotation for JIRA and then the log file won't be as large. https://confluence.atlassian.com/jirakb/how-to-rotate-the-tomcat-catalina-log-file-224398003.html
