Linking Access and Jira

Will Maclean November 26, 2018

Is it possible to link Microsoft access and Jira in some way? We currently have an Access database in which we store records of all out assets. We'd like to be able to link these assets to jira issues - for example, we'd like to link help desk tickets about a smashed computer screen back to the record of that particular computer. Is this possible? Or are we better off importing that Access database into Jira and using Jira as the database?

Hi Will,

probably you're better off having all your data in Jira. I don't know about the access part as I'm not familiar with that product. But if you can reach something via your browser, you can link it to your jira issues.

Best way to do asset management in jira though is by using an add-on. Ie Insight is a powerful solution. Maybe you want to take a look at this. They also have some powerful tools for importing your old asset databases, maybe even for MS access.

If you are using cloud, insight for cloud is soon to be released as well.

Thanks @David Friedrich, we've also decided to import all data into Jira, however, we've decided against Insight as it doesn't quite fit what we're looking for and we'd rather built our own solution.

Thanks for the input.

Looks like there have been almost 1000 views of this post and no answer so it seems to be a common problem. Our Access db holds much more information than jira does. We simply want to open a jira issue from the access DB using all of the information that resides in the DB.  Anyone have an answer?
