Jira does not create an issue when subject line is empty

We have configured JIRA to create an issue for messages sent to our helpdesk; however, it does not create issues for messages with an empty subject line.  Is there a way to configure JIRA (cloud) to handle messages with empty subject lines?

I don't think so, but maybe you can set a one-character summary via a post function on the first transition (the arrow which starts from the grey circle in the workflow).
