Hi Nic,

Actually we are going migration the JIRA v3.12 from Windows 2003 to Windows 2012 server. And my company don't want to do the upgrade for JIRA v.312 right now. I have below questions that don't understand and need you to clearify for me. Can you please help?

1) What's the purpose for Plugins? How can I backup the Pugins?

2) How can I back up these items like avatars, icons, server DB configuration, memory settings etc... what are they pupose?

I really need to your profressional knowledge for clarification before we are donig the migration.

Thanks and regards, Gary Fong

Gary,

You've had this answered a couple of times before, as part of the answers to slightly different questions you have already asked.

Looking at your profile, we see a string of perfectly good questions about moving and upgrading your JIRA installation, but it really does look like you are not bothering to read any of the answers.  Most of the questions are answered several times, you mark them right and then ask the same thing in a slightly different way.

Is there a reason that you are not reading the answers you get?  Could you explain, once, what your situation is now and what you are trying to get to?

I'm really sorry, I have no idea what Answers was doing there

It posted both of my comments several times for no reason.  I've deleted the repeats to try to tidy up.

As we've already said

This migration is not a supported one, and there's a good chance you are going to run into problems running JIRA 3.12 on Windows 2012.  If Windows 2012 runs a very old version of java flawlessly, then you should find it works, as JIRA is only dependent on Java, not the operating system.   But our concern is that the version of Java you need to be running is not going to work well on Windows 2012 (I'm not sure we've explained the exact detail of why we're suggesting this is a bad idea before, all we've really said is "unsupported", "risky", "insecure" and "might not work", but I think it's worth explaining where the problems will be in case you do decide to risk it)

For your actual question

1) Plugins are stored in <JIRA home>/plugins, so when you take a copy of the home directory, you are taking them automatically.

2) Most of those are in the <JIRA home> directory, but a couple (you mention "icons") are in the application installation directory, so copying that will transfer them.

Basically, if you follow the documentation, you do not need to worry about the details of the files.  The docs give you processes that will allow you to move from one server to another.

Hi Fong,

what are you trying to accomplish? All those things are required so that you can restore the server successfully from the backup.
