JIRA OnDemand Backup configuration

Anurag Mohapatra January 31, 2017

I have following questions for a JIRA onDemand( JIRA on Cloud) backup

1) Is the backup automated and handled by Atlassian or done manual by the JIRA administrator

2) What is the usual frequency for the backup?

3) Can a single project, board be restored to previous state if required?

4) what is the restoration time ?

  1. Both. Atlassian backups every instance on a daily basis, but just for recovery against critical incidents. They aren't contractually enforced to use it so that you can recover a set of issues accidentally deleted, or something the like.
You can also create your own backups, which could let you reset your instance to a previous point in time.
The approach we use to minimize the need for having to use a backup is adopting a strict deletion policy.
  2. Atlassian's backup daily. Yours, when manually triggered.
  3. All issues from a project can be exported to a csv file with all their fields, which can be reimported.
However, project or boards configurations cannot be backed up individually.
  4. The restoration time starts when so triggered, and the bigger it is, the longer it takes to complete.
