Is there a way to add someone as a watcher when they are added on a commment?

If I tag "@" someone in the comment section of a ticket, is it possible to make that "mentioned person" a watcher , just from doing that action? 

I know currently you would have to actually be the one making the comment to become a watcher and of course the original option just add yourself on the watcher field.  I don't think was ever an option I'm just making sure.

You are right. There is no option available now to add a mentioned person as watcher automatically.
