In Jira, what's the relationship between status category & status?

1. Please confirm that in Jira the 3 status categories are To Do, In Progress & Done.
2. Also how do the statuses map to status category?
3. So for example, if I wrote JQL to bring back all issues that were Done, would it include those issues were Done or Closed?

There are 3 status categories as you mentioned.

They map to statuses on creation when you select in which category it belongs to, basically the status can have 3 different colors (blue, yellow, green) which map to categories (to do, in progress, done)
