In JIRA Cloud, when creating an Epic, Epic name is required now but not displayed. This is a new issue in our Cloud use, as prior this was not a problem.

The Epic name is always required when creating an Epic, so the thing that changed is that the field is no longer in the Create screen of the Epic or is otherwise hidden.

Only an admin could have modified that screen, and only an admin can fix it. Make sure that your project's Screen Scheme for Epics contain a screen for Create that has Epic Name.

If the field is present in the screen, then it's possible that it's hidden by the Field Configuration.

Either way, an admin can use the "Where's my field?" helper in the Admin menu to find out the cause pretty quickly (that helper can also be accessed from the Create screen by clicking the Configure Field button at the top-right corner).
