How to track Velocity Chart and Sprint Report for Multiple Teams and one sprint

Pushpkant January 10, 2016

We currently have 2, soon to be 3 separate scrum teams working from one overall backlog and working within the same sprint. As each team selects different stories to work on within the sprint, how can we track each team's velocity chart and sprint report separately via the reports module and not have the results commingled for reporting? I've tried a couple different basic filters at the board level, but was more interested from a reporting aspect.

Hi Pushkant

As you have found when your teams work within the same sprint the velocity and of each team is mixed together. If the two teams are not sharing the estimation approach and therefore the same story points are not allocated to work of a different level this becomes messy.

I would approach this by having the following independent boards based on the same project.

  1. Kanban board of all issues not currently assigned to a sprint for managing the global backlog.
  2. A Scrum board for each team based on what is allocated to the team or not allocated.

In this way you can use the reports for each Scrum board to see the velocity and sprint details.
