How to give limited access to only certain epics in a project in Jira Agile

Ramyagr March 17, 2016

We are employing external developers for short time. As we write user stories in advance and have them under epics for 1 project, we do not want all those epics to be available to externals. Is there a way to give limited access to externals so they can only view scrum board and/or epics whose stories are currently assigned to them.

We are using JIRA Agile v7.1.18

You could look at using Issue Security levels and adding an external developer level. Then you can put any appropriate epic/story in that Issue Security level so they can see and work on it. All other issues/epics not in the external developer level would not be visible to them.
It is not going to automatically restrict but you will be able to control exactly what they can or cannot see. If you only have a limited number of external developers you may even be able to create a level for each one but be aware that you need to be aware this could impact performance.

Hi @Phill Fox [Adaptavist], thanks a lot for your quick reply. I could add tickets to be visible to externals smile
