How do I reprioritise initiatives, and have this update the portfolio plan?

 

Hello,

I'm trying to reorder the initiatives in the portfolio backlog to reflect our business requirements, but this doesn't seem to update the plan very well. In particular there is one project that is highest priority for us, but the plan keeps putting it to the back. 

It's a business critical project and had a deadline (unlike some others) so I would really like to be able to put this first, even if it means other work is then not as effective, if that makes sense?

The placement on that chart is based on the release date and the estimated work you've set. The effort you've estimated likely pushes your end date out and the start date is fairly clearly late in the year.
