How can we remove a sprint that doesn't belong on the board?

Veracode November 17, 2015

We have two boards, "Board ABC " and "Board DEF".  They are for two projects, "ABC" and "DEF".

The filters are as expected.

  • "Board ABC" filter:  "Project = ABC"
  • "Board DEF" filter : "Project= DEF"

The active sprint for "Board DEF" shows on board "Board ABC".  Of course it's empty, because the filter for "Board ABC" does not include issues from project "DEF", and the issues in the sprint on "Board DEF" are all for project "DEF".

This is blocking activity on "Board ABC", because it has an active sprint - we can't open a new one!

I checked via JQL and SQL and all issues for the sprint are in project "DEF".

How can we fix this?

Unfortunately you need permissions to edit the violating issue in the other project.  That's where you need to remove the sprint. It is sad that JIRA allows anyone to set invalid foreign sprints on issues, but does not allow the "sprint admin" to remove these invisible/violating issues (which do not match the board filter and still block sprint completion).
