How can I exclude a word from a search?

Lewis Lebentz January 13, 2016

I am trying to do a search to find out how many issues we had with a certain feature over a time period. However I am receiving a lot of false positives, so would like to try and exclude some words if possible.

Example: Say the issue was with 'email' I have created a search to show me all JIRAs containing the word email during the time period, but it also shows me other JIRAs saying things like "I have sent an email to x" rather than being an issue about email itself.

Is it possible to search for 'email' but exclude words or phrases like "sent to"?

If you simply put a - before the word you don't want to get returned in the Contains Text field of the Issue Navigator, it'll obit those results (just like Google).  Just tested this myself. You can also use quotes to obit a phrase like -"sent to"
