How can I drag a story ticket to new status in scrum board from swimlane?

I have swimlanes setup on stories.  I can drag subtasks to that story through the states on the scrum board fine but it does not allow me to drag the story to different states.  I must click on the story and move from within the ticket.  I want to just drag them like any other ticket.

That is the only option when you have subtasks on a board with swim lanes based on stories. If you do not have subtasks, you get the option to move stories as cards.

Even if you have subtasks, you get the option to remove the parent story once all subtasks are resolved but that is it!

If that is not working for you, you will have to go for swim lanes based on Epics or queries.
