Google Apps user licensing

Kevin Olson January 27, 2016

The JIRA Cloud Google Apps integration page has this warning, "Users created in Google Apps will be counted towards your license for each application they have access to." Does that mean that for every user we have in google apps (potentially thousands), we'd have to license them with Atlassian, even though only a small number will ever be logging into Jira?

No, only the Google Apps users that log into your site will be charged. This is because users are not created for them until they log into JIRA. Thus there will be no user to be 'counted' until they log in for the first time. smile

Great, thanks for the clarification!

We have all of our employees set up in Google Apps. However I don't necessarily want to give all employees the ability to log into JIRA and count against our total.  Is there any way we can impose a limit?

...Some idea that I can think of that may work include:

  1. Deny account creation if number of users goes over our existing plan;
  2. Only allow users on a preset list be allowed to create JIRA accounts;
  3. Have an admin-verification step (e.g. email to our JIRA admin who can OK/Deny new JIRA accounts)

Let me know what you might suggest.

Thanks!
