Different JIRA Instances Issue links

This question is in reference to Atlassian Documentation: Link to server apps from Cloud

How can I reference issues items between 2 different JIRA instances? We have our own JIRA instance and our client's has their own but we want to be able to reference issue types between the 2 instances.

If you need to synchronize data between different instances, you might want to have a look at Backbone addon:

Otherwise, you may create a custom field of type URL in order to store the reference to each other instances.
