Component on Issue when 'Changed' is NOT assigning the Component Lead as defined on Component

Craig Solinski April 20, 2016

Components are defined, Component Lead is a valid user with proper (Edit Issue) permission. And Component Default Assignee column is set to Component Lead.

After Editing the Component selection, the assignee of the issue remains unchanged. The Atlassian documentation appears to indicate the Issue Assignee would be updated.

I understand one way to get the issue assignee updated to Component Lead would be to use a workflow post function.

It only does the "assign to lead" thing when you're creating a new issue.  It doesn't do it on edit, as it assumes the current assignee probably should remain as it is, unless explicitly changed by the user.

Just a heads up, this requirement is usually handled by a Listener. Since you can't apply post-functions to the Edit operation, you would have to install a Listener that would scan the issue updates and modify the issues as the business requirement asks.

Our friend Nic from above, his company Adaptavist sells Script Runner, which allows you to add script listeners much easier than it would be to create one as an add-on. Food for thought!
