Activity Stream doesn't work anymore

Software Engineer May 31, 2016

In the Jira dashboards the Activity Stream gadget doesn't work anymore. I always get "No activity found". Furthermore the configuration of gadgets of that type (Activity Stream) does not work as it used to. For example I can't select a project to filter for.

It looks like some update or configuration change broke the Activity Stream gadget.

I just tried to add an Activity Stream gadget to my dashboard. It was added but it is completely greyed out and I cannot get to the data inside.

I don't think this is my installation of JIRA.  I agree with the poster that this is a JIRA issue.

I'd take a look at the startup logs for JIRA.  It's not uncommon to see in the logs that JIRA can timeout trying to render the activity stream on large environments with lots of issues, when this happens a number of times in a row, the stream can actually become banned and then JIRA doesn't try to load it again for a full 24 hours or until you restart JIRA.  This can happen to try to help the rest of the page load in a reasonable time when one resource is taking forever to load.  If you see this is what is happening, it might be best to open a case on https://support.atlassian.com for further assistance.

I would check proxy issues, name resolution, iptables, change selinux policy. Also verify that application links are not saying asking you to relocate the servers, this would indicate that something in this area changed.

I have also seen this when people made 10-15kb comments in JIRA that delays the activity stream more than the default 10.000ms that activities are set to time out.

Increasing this number might also help.
