We are doing a Story point estimation and the SP burn on Done status which makes burndown not in use

Rashmi Dash April 18, 2019

We follow this Workflow -- Start --> Dev In progress --> Dev Complete --> QA Progress --> QA complete --> Done

The SP only burn down if the story is Done but this doesn't give me the true picture when the Dev is complete.

Do we have an option to make the burn down chart a better representation of the progress of the sprint.

P.S. - We don't want to estimate using Hours

Hello @Rashmi Dash

In Jira the board burn the points when the story reaches the "right-most" status on the board, in your case which is done.

Sometimes people make the right most status as "dev complete" so that points get burned when dev is complete but this is not a good practice. Because Done should mean that's it's developed and tested both and not just developed. And this requires training the whole to understand that quality is integral to Agile and "done" should mean an developed and tested product.

If you start burning points when just dev is complete then the devs might not properly write unit tests or integrations in a hurry to just burn the points.

Hence initially it can be difficult to convince the team about definition of done but as team matures in Agile this really pays off as you will see the quality of deliverable getting better and reduction in number of prod bugs.
