I'd like to see the correct spelling of the capital of my country during the time zone selection. #kyivnotkiev

Hi,

If I understand your request, when you are selecting your user profile timezone in Jira, you would prefer to see this other spelling of the city name.   These location names are subject to the locale settings of the language pack in use by Jira on the system level at that time.   By default, the English US or English UK settings are for the Kiev spelling.

What language pack is currently in use in your Jira system?  It could influence the way Jira displays this.   I appreciate that this would be a different spelling in a different language.   However the List of TZ Database Time Zones documentation, which Jira has utilized, has the Kiev spelling for this as well.

I did not find any other existing requests for this yet.  However you could create a new feature request for Jira Server to change this.  You can navigate to https://jira.atlassian.com/projects/JRASERVER/issues/ and then use the Create button to create a new issue of type Suggestion.  I am afraid that you won't be able to create a bug type ticket at this time in that project.  But by doing this, we can start to track the other users that would like to see this and it can help out development team prioritize these kinds of changes.

If you do create this suggestion ticket, please respond to this thread with the link to the issue to help others find this request.

Thanks,

Andy

Hi Andrew,

You understand my request correctly. We use English (UK) language pack.
You are right, the https://www.iana.org/time-zones still using Kiev. However, in the DB I've found the following comment (dated 2018):

# Admittedly English-language spelling of Ukrainian names is
# controversial, and some day "Kyiv" may become substantially more popular in
# English; in the meantime, stick with the traditional English "Kiev" as that
# means less disruption for our users.

Probably, I should try to initiate changes in the Time Zone Database.

I've also created a  suggestion tickethttps://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRASERVER-69295

Thank you!
