ENVIRONMENT: JIRA ONLINE ( JIRA v7.1.0-OD-05-006 )
GOAL: Have a list view of issues in hierarchical order (Project -> Epic -> Story -> SubTask)
SUMMARY:
This JQL works... status in (Open, "In Progress", Reopened) ORDER BY project, "Epic Name", "Epic Link", key ASC
This JQL does not ... status in (Open, "In Progress", Reopened) ORDER BY project, parent, "Epic Name", "Epic Link", key ASC
I have tried add-ons (such as Links Hierarchy) but it doesn't really solve this problem.
It appears this is a long term issue/requested feature that keeps getting denied. I am hoping there is a solution for JIRA ONLINE users and maybe I have just over looked it...
Looks like 'parent' is available for logical JQL operators (OR, AND) but not for sorting (ORDER BY)
Searching gave me this opened ticket for JIRA core: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRA-9197 where they mention how to work around this limitation until the ticket gets Atlassian attention.

Thank you for the suggestion. Unfortunately the Script Runner plug-in is not supported by the JIRA ONLINE version.
It is also disappointing to read that thread and see that this issue has been known since 2006, and appears to be closed by the PM team. The solution seems fairly straight forward - expose the "parentID" as a column you can order by.

Only available if sub-tasks have been enabled by your JIRA administrator.
Search for all sub-tasks of a particular issue. You can search by issue key or by issue ID (i.e. the number that JIRA automatically allocates to an Issue).
