I don't know how to write code.

Shawn Wallace June 25, 2021

I need help! My experience with Jira has primarily the front end. I find myself needing to write a bit of code. I need to write code for a subtask/s to be triggered on a post function. I need a subtask to be triggered on the Create transition of my workflow. When the Partner issue type is selected i need 3 subtasks created (security, diligence and review). I also need it once created to be assigned to my supervisor. Any assistance with this will be appreciated!

Hi Shawn,

Have your tried using Automation For Jira for this? You probably can get by without writing a lot of code.

There is a free version called Automation Lite that you could try out. And a full blown paid version called Automation Pro.

Hi John. The instance we have doesn't allow subtasks to be automated. It weird. I tried automation first bit subtask/s isn't a selectable option for me.

Are you using the Lite or Pro version?

Not sure if it's lite or pro. These are my options when i try using automation. Subtask isn't an option. This is why i chose to try the post function route.

This looks like the built in automation tool for Jira Service Management projects. Automation for Jira would be a Marketplace add-on.

https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1215460/automation-for-jira-server?hosting=datacenter&tab=overview

This page will show you the differences in functionality between the paid and free versions:

You can also do a free trial on the paid version to see if it works for you if the Lite version is missing the functionality.
