What is the best way to archive or hide non active boards?

Hi Stephan - Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

You can't really hide or archive Jira Core boards in Jira Server. See the answer to your other post about archiving Jira Core projects as it will achieve the same purpose - and that is to change the permission scheme so that the Browse Project permission is only available to certain users - like maybe Administrators.
