Is it possible to update a linked ticket with an update on a child ticket

Hi im looking into ways to Automate updates on Multiple Jira tickets across multiple Jira project (and project types) is it possible to have a main Ticket linked to a another ticket in a different project but have the main ticket update when ever updates are added.

Hello @aburns 

Thank you for your question and yes, this is possible.

  • Create an automation that triggers on an issue transition
  • Add a new branch for all linked issues
  • Transition the linked issues to the required status
    • Or perform another action

The automation can look something like this (very basic version)

thanks for this Paul, could this also be achieved by selecting a custom field by any chance,

i.e if a custom field contains a certain selection from a list can the automation be triggered to kick in and update the linked parent ticket?

Sure thing, just change the trigger to "Field value changed" and go from there.
