I need to move a HipChat server VM from one network to another...

exporting the instance takes 7 to 10 days, so thats not really an option...

Is there any way to start the OS in such a way that it won't get hung up on the networking portion such that we can update the interface configurations and move on with our lives?  We tried a move on Tuesday, but it still wouldn't get us to a login prompt on the console after a full hour...

Hi Roy,

Your options depend on the virtualization technique.

I advise:

  • cloning the HipChat Server VM
  • move the cloned VM if necessary
  • associate the new network with the cloned VM
  • boot the clone (if the boot appears to hang press alt-F2 at the console for a login prompt)
  • login as admin
  • run "hipchat network" on the CLI to update the IP, netmask & default gateway
