How can I integrate HipChat to a project. such that, when am working on a ticket, I can easily chat the reporter up and the history of our chat should display whenever the ticket is pulled up

Hi Patrick,

If you have configured JIRA integration you can start chatting with the reporter by hovering over the name and clicking the HipChat icon in the top right corner. It will open the 1:1 chat with that person.

We don't have the functionality were that conversation will be saved in HC. The only way to go back to it is to go through the chat history. I can actually see how what you are proposing can be useful, we might consider implementing it in the future.
