This might be the plan on the long term.. but not on the short time. And it is your choice. The following is true for HipChat and Stride.
What will happen to HipChat Cloud?
Starting soon, we will begin to upgrade all HipChat Cloud teams to Stride. HipChat Cloud will continue to work as it does today until your team upgrades to Stride. After upgrading, HipChat Cloud will remain in 'read-only' mode so that you can reference your API configuration in HipChat Cloud and receive integration notifications for those apps that are not yet in Stride.
Do you plan to sunset HipChat Cloud?
For now, HipChat Cloud will continue to be supported, but eventually we will encourage all HipChat Cloud customers to upgrade to Stride.
What about Hipchat Server?
Hipchat Server will keep working the same way that it used to. I will quote Atlassian;
'Hipchat Data Center will continue to be our self-hosted team communication solution and we will not be releasing a self-hosted version of Stride. We're increasing our investment in Hipchat Data Center and have shared some of our updates that are coming soon.'
