What level of Postgress knowledge is required to support Data Center implementation of Hipchat

Aaron Andrade November 10, 2017

We have never needed to support Postgress databases at our company.  We are looking at purchasing HipChat which requires Postgress.  I'm being asked what level of Postgress do we require to install and maintain the HipChat Data Center implementation?

Thank you in advance for any advise and input on this.

Thanks--Michelle

I've also written up a knowledge base article that provides some basics on setting up a Postgres instance on a CentOS 7 system.  The document is just a guideline, so, please make sure you heed the warnings where indicated for your specific environment:

@Aaron Andrade, postgres is pretty user friendly.  I run it on the back end of my Atlassian apps and have for years.  The basics are pretty easy to pick up.  If you are comfortable installing and configuring the Atlassian Apps, Postgres shouldn't be too difficult.  Take a look at these resources:

Postgres Tutorial:

https://www.tutorialspoint.com/postgresql/index.htm

Postgres Administration:

https://www.pgadmin.org/

this tool is a very nice graphical way to manage pg databases.

Postgres Installation Guides:

https://wiki.postgresql.org/wiki/Detailed_installation_guides

Atlassian's documentation for Hipchat DC will give you the few specifics required for the DB as part of the configuration / install guide.
