We need a native Pingdom <> HipChat Server Integration

Vedran Blazanovic February 26, 2016

We need to have this integration set up and Zapier is not going to work. There are many HipChat Server integrations that are not using a middle man and that's what we need for Pingdom. The updates to HipChat need to be instant and it should not be powered by Zapier. I am wondering when this integration will be available for us and everyone that's asking for it on the support portal? Thank you

Hi Vedran,

You are right, the integration that is currently available uses Zapier to pass the Pingdom alerts to HipChat. Are there any delays in passing the Pingdom alerts to HipChat via Zapier or do you have other concerns?

In the future we will consider a more sophisticated integration which would not just pass the alerts but perhaps will also allow users to see context. Will give ability to act on those alerts but creating incidents (e.g. incident issue in JIRA). But for now the only integration is the one you are referring to – it is accessible via marketplace: https://marketplace.atlassian.com/plugins/com.pingdom.hipchat/cloud/overview.

You might be talking about a situation when your HipChat Server runs behind a firewall. You would need to have your Server addressable from the Cloud (i.e. it can be addressed via URL/ip from outside of the firewall). This is necessary with the current integration and would be necessary with any future Pingdom add-ons because Pingdom runs in a 'cloud' and needs to send data to your HipChat Server.

Anatoli, we had it set up for a test and it looked like the shortest time period was 5min for Zapier to fetch from Pingdom. This was just a test we did, but we don't want to use Zapier for this, the integration should have no 3rd party snap in for talking to Pingdom. It seems like HipChat Cloud doesn't have a middle man and that is what we are looking for on HipChat Server. We are not using anything for this right now as we are not interested in using Zapier for the integration. Thank you Anatoli, and I'm just looking to see if a different integration will be set up for this type of use case on HipCat Server and if anything is on the roadmap. Thank you. V

I wonder if it is a problem with Pingdom itself not firing the webhooks in a timely manner.

Verdan, have you considered developing a custom integration yourself? Having a server that would listen to Pingdom webhooks and forward them to HipChat (can simply use BYO)

Re: roadmap. Nothing on the immediate roadmap, talking to Pingdom guys to see if they are interested in developing such integration.

No we haven't considered a custom integration for this, but thank you for the response. Please let us know if a an integration between Pingdom and HipChat does get created without Zapier or anything like Zapier. Thank you
