You should not show as unavailable when logging in. By default, the client will automatically set you to "online" when you initially sign in. It sounds like there might be a local network issue preventing your status from updating properly or a bug in the client application.
If you continue seeing this behavior, you can contact the support team via email@example.com and they can help diagnose the problem with you, including grabbing logs if necessary.
