Offline unread counts are definitely something we're working on bringing to users as soon as we can. The best way to keep updated on the progress is to vote/watch the public JIRA issue at https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/HCPUB-614.You can also contact our support team at support@hipchat.com if you want to help us test things out once we're ready to put the feature in a beta.
