Python hypchat module not showing unread messages for private user messages

Hello,

I recently implemented the "hypchat" python module with a project of mine, and it does send messages like it should. The problem is, the user that receives the message, does not see the tag for the unread message that was sent from the other user.  So the receiving user does not always know that a new message was sent because they might have stepped away from their desk before the message was sent.  

I created a new user account in Hipchat to send automatic messages to our other users in the company.  When I log in as the new user, and send messages, then the unread message tag appears.  But when the message is sent through the Python module, then the unread message tag is missing. The notifying sound, bouncing icon, and message all appear, but no unread message tag. Any help is appreciated. Thank you

Unfortunately, hipchat module is not needed :( as that project is closed
