While HiChat may seem as an interesting option for small comanies or for very small teams that do work totally isolated from the rest of the company, it has almost no chances to sucess in Corporate.

Most corporations are using Microsoft Lync and some of them do also use the XMPP interface for Lync.

Still, based on my current knowledge HipChat has no support for working in such environment.

Use case: the entire company is using Lynx for internal communications (>10k employes) and we do want to benefit from IM integration in Jira and Confluence.

Atlassian decided to silently ditch the Jabeer plugin for JIRA (was open source and it suddenly disappered with the entire source code repository, being replaced later by HipChat, an in-house XMPP based solution).

Or maybe someone can point out to the source code of the Jabber/XMPP plugin.

Agreed.  Most corporates are using Microsoft Lync as their official communication "chat" tool.  More so because they can control it's use, or misuse.  HipChat does not have a good uptake in the corporate market as it is deemed just another chat app, driving corporate resources away from their official tools.

No, there is no mention of any integration between Lync and HipChat and no suggestions have been logged for it in any of the Atlassian projects from what I can see.  So I will be doing so immediatelysmile

In the meantime below are two Lync Connectors if you are using JIRA or Confluence Server editions.  It merely allows you to see the Lync status of people, and allows you to start a Lync conversion from JIRA or Confluence.  It also boasts integrated Windows Authentication even if your JIRA or Confluence does not.

Any result on this? We have both of these connectors, and they're only marginally useful. HipChat & Lync integration would be sweet.

We really need Lync support too, there must be a far greater demand for this than a 'new' chat option. Its bad enough with Skype, google chat, lync, msn and so on.
