Hipchat VMWare - Not Accessible from External IP

Matt November 19, 2017

Hi. I'm trying to get VMWare setup correctly so that I can host Hipchat from my home. I have a static IP from my ISP, and under VMWare, I am using the bridged-networking mode.

Here are my IP configuration settings (of course, I have already ran the "hipchat network" command to set it to a static address, and the configuration is listed below under "VMWare running Hipchat").

Desktop PC (running VMWare):
- IP 192.168.1.2
- Subnet: 255.255.255.0
- Gateway: 192.168.1.254
- DNS: 8.8.8.8

VMWare running Hipchat:
- IP 192.168.1.1
- Subnet: 255.255.255.0
- Gateway: 192.168.1.254
- DNS: 8.8.8.8

Now, if I browse to 192.168.1.1 on another computer in my house, I do see the Hipchat setup/welcome screen, however, if I try to access it from my external IP (let's say, 120.145.10.85), then it refuses to load. My modem has been configured with 192.168.1.1 on a DMZ so it should be accessible.

I am completely lost as per why this isn't working, and any help would be appreciated.

Ah, I've finally managed to solve it. The problem was in my modem, even though I had my VMWare IP on a DMZ, I had ports open for the Xbox 360, Xbox One and PS3 which were using port 80 and 443. I closed them, and then the server started browsing externally without any problems whatsoever. Thanks.
