Hi Community.
We're pretty new to HipChat but have been using JIRA and Confluence for +7 years.
Using HipChat is great in many ways, but we are missing one functionality especially which we are hoping that you guys can help with. We know that you can add guest so that they can join a room conversation via a browser, but they lack the history of the room conversation.
Ideally it would be great if HipChat had an "external user" feature, that allowed specific users to only see a specific room (example), and not all by-default corporate public room rooms and all users. It seems that you are either a regular user who can see all users and all public rooms, or you are a guest with exceptionally limited functionality.
We don't mind paying a license for such users, but it sure would be nice if you from a user admin perspective, could define what a user is able to do.
Any thoughts on that?
Thanks for the suggestion - it looks like this ticket applies to your use case:
Implement group based permissions levels on HipChat

Hi Ann.
You are right, the proposed solution to that ticket would solve my problems :-). Any notion on whether this will be included in HipChat version 5?
