HipChat 4: change of protocol from XMPP to HTTPS ?

rodolfo [Clearvision] December 8, 2015

Hi Atlassian,

It seems that latest HipChat client 4 on Windows, seems to use HTTPS. My understanding was that in the past the client used XMPP ? Can anyone confirm that ?
Looking at the GUI interface it seems to be more like a container for the web version of HipChat
wink

Cheers,
Rodolfo

Yep, you're absolutely right. We switched our clients from talking directly to our XMPP servers to using our BOSH servers. In the past, only our web client used BOSH; now, all of our clients do.

BOSH connections are more resilient and we get compression for free. Our new desktop clients also leverage the web client as it's core UI engine. This enables us to build and maintain new features in one code base.
