Have Url open chat in standalone application instead of Browser

Currently, i am using https://confluence.atlassian.com/hipchatkb/how-to-use-the-hipchat-url-scheme-755337955.html as a reference, However my computer does not recognize "hipchat://" as a viable protocol so i am using "http://[fqdn]/user/chat/[user_mention_id]" after being unsuccessful at creating the proper Registry key to have "hipchat://" open with hipchat. Are there any suggestions on how to go about this. I need users to be able to click a link and it opens a direct chat in Hipchat standalone.

Hi, Matthew!

Deep linking only works in the supported clients, not in the browser. For example, you can deep link using the hipchat URL scheme from inside the apps (i.e., in a room on 1-1- conversation).
