I'm currently trying to install HipChat server behind a reverse proxy.
While for the admin side of HipChat this works perfectly, on the chat portion I'm getting the above error.
From what I notice this seems to be caused by the fact that I'm using an ALIAS in my DNS registration which the chat is detecting and then trying to use instead of the configured url.
So for example my alias is proxy.host.com (apache), on which no ssl cerficate is configured. My dns entry is chat.host.com, which has a CNAME entry pointing to proxy.host.com. chat.host.com has a valid ssl certificate configured.
When the initial chat screen is loading (both web as app) suddenly I notice that requests are being done to proxy.host.com instead of chat.host.com. Is there any configuration I can do to prevent HipChat from using the CName host instead of the host name it should be using?
This is not a supported scenario, but I would recommend you to try and update your server's host and domain name to match the alias you're using at your proxy, and then use the same certificate on both the proxy and the server. That should help you work around the response errors you're talking about.
