We are evaluating HipChat for our office. One thing I'm not clear on is what the options are for managing HipChat history. Specifically, we would want the ability to export or get a transcript of all HipChat conversations (for compliance / management review reasons) on a periodic basis (weekly, monthly, whatever).
Is that possible (not using the Server based version, but the cloud one)?
Server seems to offer it, but the pricing for that is signficantly more than the HipChat Plus plan.
HipChat Cloud does offer history export, however it doesn't include 1-1 history. In order to get an export of 1-1 history, you would need to contact HipChat support and provide evidence of a company policy which allows access to individual user communications. Because it is a manual process, it wouldn't really be something that you could automate to happen periodically. If you're just interested in general room chat history, though, that is available via the admin section of the website and could easily be done on a periodic basis.
You can see details about how history export works on cloud at https://confluence.atlassian.com/hipchatkb/exporting-chat-history-753404166.html.
