Delete thread or part of it, in a room.

This question is in reference to Atlassian Documentation: Keyboard shortcuts and slash commands

Shortcut instructions were....missing?! Blank, that is, even though action was printed out.

I'm on the basic Hip Chat.

It sounds like you might be referring to the `/clear` command? This slash command only clears your current chat display. It doesn't actually delete any history permanently (and other users displays are unaffected).

If you're looking to actually delete a message or file, please check out https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/HIPCHAT/Delete+messages+and+files. It should have all the instructions you need to permanently remove history from a room or 1-1 chat.
