Changing Retention settings in HipChat: old history will be deleted?

I'm going to change Retention settings in HipChat Data Center from "Store all history" to "Store messages by age" - store last 180 days. When I do this, all messages older than 6 months will be deleted? Will it happen immediately?

Can it cause downtime if we have huge messages history?

Hi, Elena!

You should not face downtime or problems, because the deletions happen through an automated nightly system job; for example, if you choose to store 180 days of chat history, Hipchat will delete all messages, files, and links older than 180 days when the job runs.

Let us know in case of any additional questions!

Cheers!
