Cannot login "The server's SSL certificate can't be validated"

It was working fine and automatically restarting into my account after a log out of the system, but now it gives me error "The server's SSL certificate can't be validated". I tried to add the account info the preferences menu, also tried rebooting the Mac, same error.  My account is working fine into to web portal. HipChat 3.3.7 (205) Mac 10.8.5

Thanks for contacting us. We're seeing issues with HipChat 3.3.7 running on Mac 10.8. Unfortunately HipChat 3.3.7 is not supported as all the development effort moved to HipChat 4.0. You can download HipChat 4.0 from the link below:

• https://www.hipchat.com/downloads#mac

You might get a message stating that the HipChat 4 is not supported on Mac 10.8 - still I have been unable to confirm if it runs even after the message. The other alternative will be to use HipChat web app at http://www.hipchat.com/chat

How does one fool the server at https://www.hipchat.com/downloads#mac into feeding the v4 client?  It only wants to provide 3.3.7 which I am already running.
