We want to set the privacy of a HipChat room using an AD group so that the current memberships of a room always matches the current membership of a group. Is this possible? If so, how?
Hey Michelle,
This isn’t possible at the moment. While you can ingest groups in to HipChat from Crowd/ldap etc, and they’ll sit in the database behind HipChat, they’re not exposed anywhere in the UI and can’t be used for aniything.
Room membership based of groups (teams) is one key use case, the other would be assigning HipChat licenses based on group membership - the same way every other Atlassian application works.
these are the two Feature requests.

We’ve been addressing the room member issue by building out a database mapping rooms to groups then a script that rolls through the list, pulls those group members from Crowd and calls tre HipChat api to make sure they’re a member. Depending on the scale, something similar might be worthwhile until it gets shipped in the product natively.
