Adding/Removing a user from a private room via API doesn't add/remove the user

Marc Chang September 5, 2017

Using the hipchat api (v2) to remove a member of a private room works... but this isn't reflected in the web app or the windows app.

Using the hipchat api to add a member of a private room works... but this isn't reflected in the web app or the windows app.

There is no notification for the addition, and the user isn't kicked out of the room after removal...

Is this a bug? Is there a way to fix?

Hi Marc,

This is actually an expected behavior. When you kick the user from the room via APIv2 the user is indeed being kick out, but this will only be updated after restarting the client. Basically, you'll have to restart your client to see the effect and same goes to the user that is being kicked out.

However, the user won't be able to see the message after being kick out from the room or send any message. Once the user restarts the client, the user will automatically remove from the room and unable to see the room in the list.

The behavior that I see is the kicked out user actually since sees messages. This is the state until he closes the room.
