So....today I learned that there is a list of tags for the Atlassian Global Community located at https://community.atlassian.com/t5/forums/tagdetailpage/tag-cloud-grouping/tag/tag-cloud-style/frequent/message-scope/all/user-scope/all/tag-scope/all/timerange/all/tag-visibility-scope/public.

The list is 46 pages long (possibly sorted by ranking, but it's not obvious.) Given the amount of information, variances of tags for the same subject, subjects that are more popular and thus will be tagged in more discussions, etc.  wouldn't it be great if Atlassian were to convert this to a tag cloud that fits on a page? The tag cloud page should still link to a list view, perhaps one that allows filtering on meta-data for tags,  but for those looking for a grouping of articles and discussions say for a particular add-on, a tag cloud may make finding stuff easier.

And...just like in Jira when you add a label to an issue, it would be nice if the author of a new discussion or question could start typing in the tag field and then have options available in a drop-down to avoid duplicate or misspelled tags.

Thoughts?

Heh, when we started, it was 140 pages long, mostly caused by spaces in labels chaining words together pointlessly.

Some of the community champions are currently trying to clean the list, and the community leads are coming up with ideas on how to improve labels, make them more useful and informative and help with searching more.  Standardisation is an on-going conversation too ( jira service desk, jira-service-desk, jira_service_desk, jira-servicedesk - all perfectly clear, but should be one.  Probably jira-service-desk to match the product name)

First job is to clean out pointless single labels (there were 18 incorrect sleppings of Adaptavist for example), as that in itself will help Lithium make better suggestions when people start typing a label - it does try to do what you say already, but it struggles because of the volume of labels!

The next thing is likely to be some form of merge, so we can fix that 4:1 label example I mentioned earlier.  We need that because a lot of labels have been used many times, and at the moment, the process is manual - we search for a label, then open every question using it, and change it to a more standard one, remove it or decide it's valid.

A tag cloud is exactly the sort of idea for improvements @Test User KL @Erica Moss and the other community leads are looking for.
