Reducing "tech debt" and increasing performance: A case study in automation

Presented by Alex Viale, Director of Product Management at Appfire & Daniel Tombs, Atlassian Architect at Inmarsat

In this case study session, we explore how a Jira administrator and Scrum Leader at an international fintech company chose automation tools to improve how Jira was applied in development and operational teams. We'll cover topics that Jira administrators face every day, including: how automation effectively tackles predefined actions and certain transitions; vulnerability and security escalation; and ways to reduce the cost of technology by leveraging code-free workflows. After attending this session, you'll know how to use automation to reduce tech debt, optimize complex approvals, and minimize backlog requests. This is a joint presentation with Inmarsat's Atlassian Architect, Daniel Tombs and Appfire’s Director of Product Management - Workflow & Automation, Alex Viale. Alex has 15+ years of experience helping global companies build strong products by focusing on optimizing user experience and product management. Dan Tombs is Inmarsat's Jira Architect & Scrum Lead. He has worked as a technical consultant throughout the Atlassian community, focusing heavily on Jira and Confluence. 

A cultivated DevOps platform technical walkthrough

In this session, the team will give a technical walkthrough of a fully-automated DevOps platform that runs on Atlassian and your choice of Cloud. The tools, frameworks, and automation applied to and integrated with Atlassian applications is what takes this platform to the next level. In this session, the team will show how the platform leverages Atlassian tools along with automation via Prometheus and other tools and frameworks. They'll also show real-world examples and results based on using and leveraging the DevOps platform. How to automate key result reporting using Jira and Quantive Results

In this session, the team at JFrog will discuss how they use Kuttl to easily configure a dev environment locally that accurately matches the final test environment. You'll learn why they decided to rethink their approach and what led them to Kuttl; the benefits of their new testing approach; and how they combine Kuttl and CI pipelines for more streamlined testing and fewer broken builds. A deep-dive on automation for Jira

Presented by Italo Qualisoni, Atlassian Principal Consultant at Modus Create

In this session, the team at Modus Create will share examples of complex use cases for automation using the native features in Jira and Confluence that saved hours of work for their clients. They'll cover automated notifications; integrations with other Marketplace apps; and how to automate task creation using templates with predefined values and hierarchy. They'll also walk through how they used automation to replace complex scripts while migrating from Server to Cloud.   Italo Qualisoni is an Atlassian Consultant at Modus Create.
