Hi everyone!
I was recently asked by a student from my alma mater about the pros and cons of working in tech. I thought it was a really excellent question - we often advertise the highlights of our industry to young people who are interested, but rarely share the downsides!
So, I'd love to hear from you - what are some of the pros AND cons of working in Education that you would share with anyone who is considering it for their own career? Or, think of it this way: What do you wish you knew when you started your career path that you know now?
Can't wait to hear your answers :). Happy Monday!

I'm not involved in the educational process, but my mom is a math teacher, so let me comment on this post.
Pross:
- it's an important and necessary profession
- constant gaining invaluable experience from working with children
- self-improvement and self-development
- participation in various activities
- good pension
Cons:
- frequent tiredness
- lots of paperwork
- ungrateful children and their parents
I work at a University - and there are many pros and cons. Examples of pros:
Tons of benefits, including anything that you can get with a university ID
Universities dont get bought out, or acquired
Jobs can be very very stable, it is not uncommon to meet people with 20+ years of service
Usually lots of vacation time, and holidays
Always learning something new
Cons - you never make as much as you would for a private company, but over the long haul, you can accumulate a good salary
Typically we dont get christmas bonuses, and performance bonuses are not huge
I think the same, salaries are very meager, but in return there is a lot of free time. Barter exchange 😊
Thanks
I work at the same district as my kids attend school.
Pros: I have snow days when my kids do. And lots of vacation and holidays too.
Because I work central office I am not in schools and am able to work from home part time.
I was able to get my foot in the door to tech through my district despite not having a degree to do it. I started as tech support and am now the product manager for all their Atlassian Products
Sick kid, no problem. EVERYONE gets it.
Cons: Don't make as much as I know I could if I worked for a private company.
Unfortunately, office politics still exist even in a school environment.
