Below is a quote from an organisation involved in placing interns in Summer jobs.
"...we saw the proportion of interns who identify as female, neither or both genders, or who chose not to disclose, grow to 43% which is awesome (let's go, 50%!)."
This sentence raised by hackles. Diversity can be an important measure but I find it uncomfortable when a range of responses is "simplified" to the majority response vs all other responses including no answer.
Reporting on the hires only gives part of the picture - what were the proportions in the applicant pool?
