Incremental is triggered if you choose in the Directory Settings. Otherwise, the Full will be the one to run. Also, when the incremental is enabled, the Full should only run when you disable and enable the directory.
If you find the directory always performs a full sync, even though you've selected Incremental... are there any particular troubleshooting steps to follow?
